UNB, Dhaka :
Branding ruling Awami League as an anti-democratic force, BNP senior leader Nazrul Islam Khan urged people from all walks of life to get united to save democracy by defeating its enemy.
“Now democracy is under the grasp of anti-democratic forces…we urge all to get united to beat those against the democracy and restore it in the country,” he said.
Nazrul, a BNP standing committee member, came up with the remarks while speaking at a milad mahfil on the ground floor of the party’s Nayapaltan central office.
Sramik Dal Dhaka city north unit arranged the programme, marking 15th death anniversary of its ex-president Shahidul Islam Chowdhury Dulal.
He said Awami league not only annihilated democracy by introducing one-party Baksal role in 1975, but also supported Ershad and Moyeenuddin-Fakhruddin to destroy it later.
The BNP leader claimed their party founder Ziaur Rahman ‘revived’ democracy after 1975 while Khaleda restored it in 1991 and 2008 with her ‘uncompromising’ leadership. “So, the history of Awami League is the history of destroying democracy and helping those did it.”
