UNB, Dhaka :
Reaffirming her government’s firm stance not to allow anyone to make Bangladesh a den of militants and terrorists, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday urged all, including the pro-liberation and progressive forces, to get united against criminal and destructive activities unleashed by the BNP-Jamaat alliance.
She came up with the call while addressing an exhibition on recent atrocities unleashed by the BNP-Jamaat alliance across the country in the name of politics and a discussion meeting at the National Museum here after its inauguration.
Central Publicity and Publication Sub-Committee of Awami League organised the programme to display the recent destructive activities of the BNP-Jamaat-led 20-party alliance in the name of countrywide nonstop blockade since January 6 and hartals with weekly intervals.
Awami Legaue general secretary Syed Ashraful Islam also spoke at the programme held with Publication Sub-Committee chairman and PM’s Adviser HT Imam in the chair. Envoys and representatives from different missions in Bangladesh were present.
A documentary, titled ‘BNP-Jamaat’s Arson Violence-Blood Stained Bangladesh’ was screened at the programme.
Sheikh Hasina broke down into tears at the programme watching the documentary and
listening to the pathetic stories of a number of burnt and affected people in ferocious attacks of the BNP-Jamaat clique.
The Prime Minister said what the BNP-Jamaat is doing now is just militant and terrorist acts, and there will be no place for militants and terrorists in Bangladesh.
She also reiterated her government’s firm commitment to save the lives and property of the common people. “The government will surely do whatever needs to be done to protect the lives and property of people.”
The Awami League chief sought all-out cooperation from all, including the pro-liberation forces, in rooting out the militancy, terrorism and destructive activities from the country. “In some cases, common people came forward to catch and hand over anarchists to the law-enforcement agencies…we’ve seen that already… I also want it from all people to act like that.”
The BNP-Jamaat unleashed its destructive activities against the common and innocent people in the name of politics, she said asking, “Why are you attacking these innocent people…they are innocent! When you’re killing these people then for whom you are actually doing politics?
She asked the BNP chief to stop killing and the politics of corpses. “For whose interest you (Khaleda) are doing this, how many dead bodies you want, and where you will stop this!”
The Prime Minister criticised those who always put her and BNP chief Khaleda Zia in the same scale and compare both. “I’ll request you, please do not put me with her in same scale, do not compare me with a killer, this is very much painful for me,” she said.
Hasina said she does not have anything to make personal gain and she already proved it in the past.
“We never believe in revenge…if the fire of revenge once breaks out it’s hard to put out. We’re working for the development of the country and its people,” she said.
