With the sharp nip in the air, as slightly warmer clothes are pulled out of the closet, it’s time to go for a revamp of your beauty kit too.
Check these trends that are going to be big this festive season.
 Oiled sensuous lips
This can be seen with all the celebrities on their Instagram, flaunting their just-out-of-shower and put-on-some-lip-oil look. It exudes freshness and subtle sexiness and is a part of wellness beauty styles gaining momentum every year. “Lip oils are lighter on the lips – they moisturise and hydrate the delicate area beautifully, give a soft and light tint and also keep lips luscious,” explains beauty blogger Latha Sunadh. It’s all about high shine minus lipsticks and lip glosses.
Metallica all the way
“From eyes, lips to cheeks and nails – it’s metallica make-up all the way. Festive parties will see plenty of glitter in lipsticks, nailpaints, eyeliners, kajal,” declares Delhi-based make-up artist Dipali Sarin. It’s all very OTT. But be careful while using a touch of glitter on your face because it needs an expert hand to get it right. Take some glitter and dab it in the middle of your eyelids or even a bit on your regular eye shadow for a sultry look. You can also apply some on the centre of your lips over your lipstick for a sexy evening effect or a hint of it on your cheekbones to bring out the diva in you. Who doesn’t like some drama and sensuousness in their make-up on occasions when everyone is dressed to impress?
Dark lips
It’s no big news. Once spring/summer says bye, bolder lip colours take over in most dressers. This year, too, it’s the same – but with the deep colours keep getting deeper and darker. “Lips are strikingly dark, something that Indian women sometimes shy away from. Check out the runway looks, both Indian and international, where actors and models are sporting dark and darker lips to glam up their style,” says Sarin. While doing your festive make-up shopping, pick deep plums, wines and burgundy lipsticks, and show your glam side to the world.
 Coffee tones are haute
Just like the way you need more coffee to feel energetic in the changing season, it’s toasty time for your make-up palette too. Coffee is making a big comeback this year and will be seen on celebratory occasions and this trend will spill over to winter as well. You can go the monotone make-up way with coffee trend – dark chocolate lipstick paired with brown smokey eyes and a bronze highlighter. Or choose one of these – coffee-toned lips or eyeshadow to define and highlight one feature of your face. This trend is especially great for Indian skin tones.
 Matte glowing wellness skin
Why call it a wellness look? Because this key trend that is all set to rule the season is about skin that looks well-nourished and healthy. The skin that looks well cared for – the kind that looks like it has got sufficient beauty sleep. “Make-up wise, it’s about highlighting your face a bit, just a bit, don’t go OTT with it. Highlight the apples of the cheeks, the nose and the cupids bow, using pink-toned or gold-toned highlighters,” says Fernandes. This lit-from-within complexion look can be seen all over social media and on the runway too. Take care of your skin, dress it up well – use a good base or primer and make it shine for the dandiya night or evening.
Dark and nude – together
Another big trend is the classic red and magenta lips with a nude or just wing liner eye. “The lips are semi matte to matte and not glossy,” says Mumbai-based make-up expert Clint Fernandes. Red and hot pink lips go great with Indian clothes. The interesting variation is with nude eyes – go for peach, beige and such colours to complement bright lips.
Neon bright eyeliner
This look is bold and young but works well for most skin tones. Fernandes suggests going for a “thick winged liner or a graphic liner in either neon or primary colours such as blue green or yellow – red and living coral works too. Pair this with a natural lip look – anything works depending on what you find flattering – glossy or matte.” For the make-up newbie, primary liner look means using a primary colour for the eyeliner, in the same way as one would use a black eyeliner. Making the liner a bit thicker would help show the colour off a bit better. It’s almost a colour block and that’s really trendy.
Smokey glittery eyes
Doing a smokey black grey or even blue and purple eyes with a metallic finish adds that sparkle to your evening look. Apply a hint of glitter to the inner corners of the eyes and the lower lash line. Pair this glam eye look with flesh-toned glossy lips.
For festive make-up lipstick picks – go for deep plums and burgundy.
