The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Monday urged all to remain alert against fake phone calls since a quarter is calling
people over phone identifying themselves as ACC officials and demanding money to relieve them from corruption charges. The Commission has already received intelligence information and allegations that a quarter is demanding money from cross-section of people like government officials, retired public servants, and bank and insurance officials by making calls over phone in the name of ACC officials, an ACC press release said.
Following the receipt of the information, the national anti-graft agency said: “The ACC is a statutory body. There is no scope of getting one accused and making a graft suspect free from corruption charges by a single official of the Commission. All sorts of communication over mobile or telephone are totally prohibited. The Commission issues written notice to graft suspects in this regard. So, there is no legal or administrative scope of doing contact with any accused over phone”.
If anyone calls people demanding ACC official, the ACC requests all to contact with nearby police stations or Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) or director (monitoring) of the ACC dialing phone number 9352552 or mobile number 01711644675.
