German University Bangladesh starts formal journey

The German University Bangladesh (GUB) has started its formal journey at its present campus in Gazipur with the dream of introducing a world-class university in Bangladesh. On the occasion, the university arranged a ‘Meet the Press’ at the National Press Club in the city on Tuesday.
Prof. Dr. Saifullah Khandker, Chairman of the Board of Trustee of the university, presided over the function while the GUB Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Micahel Boehme presented a keynote paper. Vice-Chairmen of the Trustee Board Syed Golam Mowla, Md Kamruzzaman and Syed Mastafizur Rahman and Director Md Maksud also attended the function, among others.
In his keynote paper, Prof Michael Boehme narrated the aims, objectives, mission and academic plan of the university. He said that they started the journey with the university with the aim of ensuring modernised higher education concept following the German standards to meet the current challenges. They also have the aim that their academic activities will be conducted with permanent collaboration with Germen universities.
Discussing the prospect of higher education in Bangladesh and the plan of the university in this regard, the GUB VC said that they are committed to introduce quality education and provide non-traditional fields of study. He also pointed out different facilities those will be provided for the students.
Prof Saifullah Khandker said that the professors of German and Bangladesh have developed the curricula of the university. The students of the university will have the access to the students to the Germen universities. The GUB will provide research-based knowledge in the aim of qualifying the students to face the challenges in different sectors, he added.
The permanent campus of the GUB will be built at Ghatail in Tangail district. The government and the University Grant Commission (UGC) already approved the university. The admission activities already began.
