UNB, Dhaka :
German-based Dorsch Holding GmbH is likely to be appointed as the project management consultant (PMC) for the 16-km underground aviation fuel supply pipeline from Narayanganj to Kurmitola Aviation Depot at
Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital.
According to official sources, state-owned Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) has already forwarded a proposal in this regard to the Energy Division to receive the top-level approval.
They said, the Energy Division also sent the proposal to the Cabinet Division to place it before the Cabinet Committee on Public Purchase, the highest government authority, for the approval.
Officials said, the BPC earlier awarded a contract to Bangladesh Navy to construct the pipeline to facilitate uninterrupted supply of aviation fuel, particularly Jet A-1 one, directly from its depot in Pitalganj, near Kanchan Bridge, in Rupganj to its depot in Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. As per the contract signed on November 8 last year, Bangladesh Navy will construct the pipeline as engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor at a contract value of Tk 183.33 crore.
A fuel storage tank is also included in the project. However, the whole project cost was estimated atTk 228.49 crore.
BPC officials said the navy is now conducting a survey and some other technical works as part of preparations for the physical works for the construction of 8-inch diametre 16-km pipeline.
But after awarding the contract, the BPC felt that it should have consulted for the project and instantly contacted Dorsch Holding GmbH to hire it as the consultant for the project, said a top official at the BPC.
