Chittagong Bureau :
Chittagong BGMEA Institute of Fashion and Technology (CBIFT) launched a six-month diploma course in cooperation withthe German Development Cooperation through GIZ, Deutsche Gesellschaftfür Internationale Zusammenarbeit on March 2, says a press release.
This diploma course addresses one of the main factors for low productivity in the Ready-Made Garment (RMG) sector in Bangladesh, a lack of skilled mid-level management. The course is designed to provide professional knowledge and skills required to implement lean manufacturing and industrial engineering techniques in the RMG sector. Besides, it includes training to develop production planning and minimize waste by integrating ‘Lean Manufacturing’ and control quality based on customer needs.
The course concept has been developed by a joint program of the governments of Bangladesh and Germany “Promotion of Social and Environmental Standards in the Industry” (PSES) and CBIFT. During the last months in a ‘Training of Trainers’ course, faculty lectures have been prepared. CBIFT has also prepared the class room with essential materials for advance training.
Praising the initiative, Ms. Roswitha Amels, Deputy Head of Development Cooperation at the German Embassy, said, “We are pleased to support the diploma course implemented by CBIFT and facilitated by the German Development Cooperation.” She also stressed that the mid-level management trained at this diploma course will contribute significantly to increase not only productivity but also the Social Compliance Standards in the RMG sector.
“GIZ, PSES has supported CBIFT to develop and run a six month diploma course on Social Compliance. The collaboration in the past has been very promising. PSES has extended its support to develop the concept and training materials for this new diploma course and also provided a generator to CBIFT with sufficient capacity to make training sessions more effective, for uninterrupted learning,”said Magnus Schmid, Program Coordinator of PSES, GIZ.
