Deutsche Welle (DW), a new TV channel of Germany, has announced its presence in Bangladesh at a press conference held at a city hotel on Thursday.
Dorothee Ulrichs, Head of Distribution in Asia of the channel announced this at the conference where German Ambassador Dr Thomas Prinz and Director General of Bangladesh Television Abdul Mannan were present as special guests.
Dorothee Ulrichs underscored the need for undertaking strong role of media in presenting the real picture of the social injustice, inequality and moral degeneration.
The effective role of media is very much important for checks and balances in controlling political government and prevents misuses of power, she further said.
DW channel will broadcast 24 hours of continuous news coverage in English. The cornerstone of the new channel is DW News, which covers all the top stories from Europe and the world, along with a programming focus on regional news and events from Asia, she said.
DW offers a unique perspective that is especially valued by local business and opinion leaders and DW News will now provide them with in-sights into international headlines and the details behind regional issues”, she also added.
DW’s new channel is available on all major cable networks in Bangladesh including United Communication Services and the first-ever DTH platform in Bangladesh operated by Beximco Communications Limited that will begin service at the beginning of 2016. Along with DW News, the new channel features a variety of documentaries, talk shows and programs covering culture and lifestyle, she informed.
Addressing as special guest, German Ambassador Dr Thomas Prinz has stressed on the freedom of media in presenting the original picture of the society. The ambassador expected that DW channel will be able to contribute a vital role for the development of Bangladesh.
