BSS, Dhaka :
Gender equity has been achieved in secondary level schools enlisted under the Secondary Education Quality and Access Enhancement Project (SEQAEP).
This was revealed while releasing a finding titled “Learning assessment-2013” on SEQAEP enlisted schools at a function in the auditorium of National Academy for Education Management (NAEM) here.
Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid addressed the function as the chief guest while Director General of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Prof Fahima Khatun was in the chair.
Education Secretary Md Nazrul Islam Khan, member of privatization commission Shyamal Kanti Ghosh, Director General of NAEM Iffat Ara Nargis, officials and representatives of donor agencies, among others, addressed the function.
Nahid said the government is considering to give learning assessment system an institutional shape aiming to set a standard measurement to assess quality of education. “As part of government’s move, we are launching learning assessment system … and it will continue,” he added.
The education sector has witnessed a remarkable progress in various indicators including enrolment of student at primary level, checking dropout rate and gender parity due to implementations of a number of time-befitting programmes taken by the present government, Nahid added. Assessment tests were carried out on Bangla, English and mathematics among 7,143 students of class six and 7,169 students of class eight of 309 SEQAEP enlisted schools on December 27 last year.
Regular students did well compared to irregular peers, the assessment report said.
It also found that standard of madrasa education is weaker than general education.
