GDP growth doesn’t mean actual dev: Prof Barakat

University of Dhaka Professor and Eminent Economist Dr Abul Barakat told that gross development product (GDP) does not mean the actual development of a country.
 Such concept is almost a mock. GDP grown, per capita income concept does not establish distributive justice. Rather it increases discrimination. ‘Core people were not included in production till date,’ Professor of the department of economics, University of Dhaka added.
Dr Abul Barakat was speaking at seminar on political economy in agricultural reform system arranged jointly by Bangladesh Arthanity Samity, a platform of economists and Jessore based daily Satyapath held at Jessore Shilpakala Academy on Friday.
Dr Barakat presented the keynote paper in the seminar. Professor Dr Abdus Sattar, vice chancellor, Jessore University of Science and Technology was the chief guest in the first session while it was attended among others Dr Ashraf Uddin Chowdhury, president, Bangladesh Arthanity Samity, Dr Jamal Uddin Ahmed, general secretary, Iqbal Kabir Jahid, polit bureau member, workers party of Bangladesh and president, board of editors, daily Satyapath and Professor Isarul Haque, convener, seminar organizing committee.
