Police in Gazipur have framed charges against 38 people, including Gazipur City Corporation’s suspended mayor M A Mannan, his son BNP leader M Manjurul Karim Roni, and Roni’s wife Taposhy Tonmoy Chowdhury in a subversion case.
Md Bachchu Miah, Sub-Inspector of Gazipur Sadar Police Station who is the investigation officer (IO) of the case submitted the charge sheet to the court on Sunday.
Roni’s father-in-law Shahrum Chowdhury Rumi and mother-in-law Asma Begum Ava’s names were also included in the charge sheet.
The mayor has been facing a total of 25 lawsuits, while his son is facing five cases on political ground so far. Recently, other members of mayor’s family have also been named in different cases.
Earlier, Police filed the case with Gazipur Sadar Police Station on March 10 this year against the accused, who reportedly carried out subversive activities on February 18, 2013 out to topple the government.
