Gazi Group Cricketers came up strongly on the day two of the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) players’ transfer, signing up some big names including the Under-19 World Cup winning captain Akbar Ali and Test captain Mominul Haque.
While Akbar left BKSP to join Gazi Group, Mominul Haque became the teammate of his BKSP successor, leaving the tent of Legends of Rupganj. Gazi also inked deal with newly-married Soumya Sakar who came from Abahani, promising stars Jakir Hasan, Ariful Haque, Yasir Ali, Nahid Hasan and speedster Mukidul Islam Mugdho.
“Very excited to play with such big stars,” said Akbar Ali after joining Gazi Group. “Hopefully I will learn many things from them.
Soumya vowed to give his best while Mominul termed the Gazi Group team as balanced. “I think it’s very balanced team. There is Soumya, our Under-19 captain and Mahmudullah Riyad bhai. I think there is good combination of batsmen, bowlers, spinners,” Mominul said.
Mominul saw the positive thing in BCB’s decision to bar the foreign players from playing the DPL this year.
“We should thank the CCDM and BCB. This is really good decision. At least one local player will get the chance to perform,” he added.
Gazi however had to leave Imrul Kayes who joined Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club on day two of players transfer.
Legends of Rupganj turned up also on the day two and signed up the players like Ruyel Ahmed, Shamsul Islam, Al-Amin Hossain Junior, Test opener Shadman Islam.
The Players Transfer will end on today (Thursday) which will see the national stars completing their signing for their new teams. The Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis (CCDM), the guardian of Dhaka clubs, set up a desk at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium today to give the national players the opportunity to ink their deal with their respective clubs.
A total of 74 players signed for new teams in two days, with the second day saw 20 players completing the process.
The DPL, the county’s most coveted domestic tournament is set to start from March 15.
