Gas price hike to be resisted: BNP

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Sunday said that his party would go for tough agitation against the government in ease of increasing gas price.
“Our position is clear. We will not accept the hike in gas price. We will protest,”Mirza Fakhrul said at a press conference in the party’s Nayapaltan Central office.
“We has already said that the attempt to increase gas price is illogical. Lower and middle-income group of people will be badly affected if the gas price is hiked,” he remarked.
He have pointed out that several political parties and social organizations have already protested the planned gas price hike and BNP will also take its own course if the people’s interest is ignored.
With reference to the December 30 national election, Fakhrul said: “Not only we have protested, reputed media like BBC, Al Jazeera, The Guardian and New York Times have commented that no
election was held in Bangladesh on that day.”  
Different newspapers of India also published similar report about election of December 30, the BNP leader said.
Blaming the government for controlling Bangladesh’s mass media, Fakhrul has said despite barricades, many media have done a good job about the December 30 national election.
BNP is to observe weeklong Independence Day programmes, chalked out a seven-day programme, including a colourful rally in the capital.
He announced the programmes at the office after a joint meeting attended by the leaders of BNP and its associate bodies.
As part of the programme, he said, the party men will bring out an Independence Day rally from their Nayapaltan central office on March 27.
Besides, the party’s district, upazila and municipality units across the country will also take out rallies at their convenient time on this occasion, he said.

BNP senior leaders will place wreaths at the National Mausoleum in Savar in the morning on March 26, and later, they will place wreaths at the shrine of late BNP founder Ziaur Rahman.
BNP will hoist national and party flags atop its offices, including the Nayapaltan central one, in the morning on the occasion.
Fakhrul said their party will hold a discussion on March 25 in the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh on the occasion.
