Gas disruption in city to continue till Friday

The people’s sufferings from acute gas supply disruption will continue till Friday as the gas line damaged on Monday night needed more time to be repaired.
Sources said, acute gas shortages at Mohammadpur, Lalmatia, Dhanmondi, Jigatola, Rajabazar, Indira Road, Pirerbagh, Hazaribagh and Eskaton has been continuing due to the interruption in gas supply.
While the people of the areas are waiting to get relief from the problem, the Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Ltd officials said they may be able to complete the repairing of the damaged line by Thursday night.
When contacted, Engineer Ali Iqbal Md. Nurullah, Managing Director of Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Limited told The New Nation on Wednesday, “We are trying our best to complete the repairing of the line which was harmed by the RHD contractors. The people may get rid of the gas supply disruption completely by Friday.”
He said workers are trying to complete the work as early as possible.
Meanwhile, the city dwellers of those areas are facing difficulties to cook for the inadequate gas supply.
Stoves in many families found no gas due to the supply disruptions.
“I think the gas may be available from morning today (Wednesday) but we found no gas in my burners. So the whole family fell in acute sufferings. Finally we brought food from restaurant,” said Sanjida Khanum, a home maker from Zigatola.
Other home makers of the areas have also stated their suffering saying they failed to cook foods for families which create huge agonies for them.
“It is untold suffering for us especially for my baby girl. I need gas frequently day long for cooking my baby’s meals. But gas shortages started from Monday night,” said Sabrina Sayeed, a home maker from Nurzahan Road, Mohammadpur.
She urged the authority to take measures fast so that they could get rid of from the agony. Titas Gas officials said, the problem began after the feeder line was damaged around 9:00pm on Monday during construction work of Salehpur bridge over the Turag river beside Amin Bazar.
On the other hand, Titas gas officials said also that the gas crisis not only for the damaged line but also shortages of supply from the from Gas Transmission Company Limited (GTCL).
“The current crisis was not because of the damage as they are now supplying gas through another line but there is a shortage of gas supply in Titas network system,” said Titas Director (Operations) Shafiqul Islam Khan.
Replying to a query regarding this, Titas Gas MD Ali Iqbal Md. Nurullah told The New Nationn, “It may need more time to get the supply normal.”
