Gang rape victim’s body exhumed

Three months into the death of a gang rape victim her body was exhumed following a Court order for conducting post mortem examination from Kalishah Mazar area of Sitakunda upazila on Monday.
The victim was identified as Jaheda Khatun, 19, daughter of Muklesur Rahman of Gabtola area of Phulgasi in Feni.
The body of victim Jaheda body was exhumed in the afternoon in presence executive magistrate, Md Kamruzzaman.
Police held five people – Kusuma, Saddam, Khokon, Helal and Babul over the gang rape.
According to the case statement, earlier on March 24 the detainees abducted Jaheda from Phulgasi and locked her in a remote empty house in Banurbazar area. They violated the girl one by one.
After one week, Jaheda became severely sick while the miscreants admitted her to a local hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.
Rapist, Saddam buried the victim at local graveyard near Kalu Shah Mazar identifying himself as victim’s brother.
Another rapist Bablu on April 12, disclosed the news of Jaheda’s death to her brother Humayun Kabir and threatened him to remain silent over the matter.
Later, Humayun filed a case with Phulgasi Police Station in this regard.
Finally, after three months the body of the victim was exhumed for conducting autopsy.
The body was sent to Chattogram Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) morgue for post mortem examination, said Officer-in-charge of Phulgasi Police Station Panna Lal Barua.
The arrestees had already confessed of their crimes, he added.
