Gana Unnayan Kendra distributes saplings to 24 Anandalok schools

Gana Unnayan Kendra (GUK), a local reputed non-government organisation (NGO), distributed 10,000 saplings of various trees to 4,000 students of 24 Anandalok schools under four districts of the country yesterday marking the “World Environment Day”.
The saplings of timber, fruit bearing and herbal trees were distributed among the students with the slogan “Mujib Barshe Ongikar Kori, Sonar Bangla Sobuj Kori”, said Aftab Hossain, coordinator of the GUK.
 “Each of the students got two saplings to plant those on their homestead or surroundings of their houses,” he said, adding that as many as 2,000 saplings of fruit bearing trees were planted on the school campus premises to mark the day.
Chief Executive of the GUK Abdus Salam said the objective of the saplings distribution is to enhance the beauty of nature, maintain the ecological balance of the environment and meet the demand of nutrition.
The schools have been running in Gaibandha, Nilphamari, Panchagarh and Kushtia districts for the backward and under privileged children of the society with the financial support of German-based International NGO NETZ at the direct supervision of GUK, he concluded.
