Fugitive war crimes accused Akram held in Rajshahi

Police in a drive arrested Khan Akram Hossain, an absconding wanted accused in a case for crimes against humanity during the Liberation War in 1971 from Bhogroil in the city early Friday.
Khan Akram Hossain, 60, is a resident of Dengahati in Morelganj upazila of Bagerhat district.
Acting on secret information, a team of Rajpara police station and Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) conducted a raid at the house of Abul Kalam Azad, a relative of Akram Hossain, at Dingadoba in
the city in the night, said RMP assistant commissioner Anwar Hossain Sayeed.
Finding no trace of Akram, police along with Azad raided the house of Azad’s another relative Shamim at Bhogroil under Shah Makhdum thana and managed to arrest Akram around 1:00am.
On June 10, International Crimes Tribunal-1 issued an arrest warrant against Akram Hossain following a petition filed by the prosecution.
Since then, he had remained absconding.
Nimai Das, a freedom fighter of Shakharikathi village in Morelganj upazila, filed a case against 19 people, including Akram Hossain, for their involvement in crimes against humanity during the Liberation War.
