Court Correspondent :The Chief Judicial Magistrate Court of Dhaka on Sunday sent Tazreen Fashions Managing Director Delwar Hossain and his wife, Chairman of the garment, Mahmuda Akhter Mita to jail, rejecting their bail pleas.Senior Judicial Magistrate Tazul Islam passed the order in the afternoon after hearing.Earlier, at about 9.30 am, Managing Director Delwar Hossain and Chairman Mahmuda Akhter Mita surrendered to the court with bail pleas.About 10 lawyers including Dhaka Bar Association’s former General Secretary Mohammad Ali Hossain and Advocate ATM Golam Gaos appeared to the court on behalf of the two accused. They claimed that the accused were not present on the spot at the time of the incident. Besides, they have nine other factories and in their absence those may also be closed. The lawyers also said that, the factory was set up according to the plan, approved by the concerned authorities.On behalf of the prosecution, Additional Public Prosecutor Anwarul Kabir Babul and Advocate Shamsur Rahman conducted the hearing opposing the bail pleas. Besides, GRO of the Contd concerned Police Station, Inspector Md Asaduzzaman assisted the prosecution lawyers. They said that the factory was set up without any approval of Rajuk authorities. Earlier, on December 31, 2013 a Dhaka court issued warrant of arrest against six people of Tazreen Fashions including its Chairman and Managing Director in connection with the fire incident in the garment factory in 2012.The fugitives in the charge-sheet of the case include Managing Director Delwar Hossain and Chairman of the company Mahmuda Akhther Mita, and four others.Earlier, on Dec 22 last, police submitted the charge sheet against 13 officials of Tazreen Fashion Ltd including its Managing Director and Chairman.Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Investigator AKM Mohshinuzzaman Khan submitted the charge sheet with Dhaka’s Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court.The other accused of the case are: Engineer M Mahbub Morshed, Factory Manager Abdur Razzak, Quality Control Manager Shahiduzzaman, Production Manager Mobarak Hossain Monju, Administrative Officer Dulal, store in-charge Hamidul Islam and security supervisor Al-Amin, Anisur Rahman, security guard Rana alias Anarul, and loader Shameem Mia. Earlier, on November 24 in 2012, at least 112 people were killed and over 200 injured overnight in a devastating fire at Tazreen Fashions in Ashulia, on the outskirts of the capital.After five-hour long frantic efforts, a total of 10 fire fighter units brought the fire under control at midnight.SI of Ashulia Police Station, Khairul Islam lodged the case accusing un-identified people, a day after the fire incident. Meanwhile, the leaders of Bangladesh Garments Songhoti Parisad (BGSP) yesterday urged the government for immediate release of compensation fund to the victims families of Rana Plaza and Trazreen Garments. They also demanded exemplary punishment of the owners of Rana Plaza and Tazreen Garments. The BGSP leaders came up with the demand while bringing out a procession held in the city.
