Fugitive killed in police ‘encounter’ at Magura

A fugitive convict has been killed in an alleged encounter with police at Magura. Four policemen were injured in the gun battle that took place at Sadar Upazila’s Rautara village around2:30am Sunday, said Senior Assistant Superintendant of Police Sudarshan Roy. ‘Alfu’, 40, previously a member of an extremist group, had formed his own gang – ‘Alfu Bahini’. They committed crimes like murder, robbery and extortion, he said. “He was carrying an eight-year sentence after being convicted in an arms case and had four more cases against him at Magura Sadar Police Station.” Police launched an operation after learning that Alfu and his gang were preparing for a robbery near Rautara Collegiate School on Magura-Jhenaidah road, said ASP Roy. “The miscreants began firing after sensing police presence. Alfu was shot when police fired in defence.” A one-shooter gun, two bullets and a machete were recovered from the spot. ‘Alfu’ was brought to Magura Sadar Hospital around 2:50am, said Brother Shahidul Islam of the hospital’s emergency unit. “He died before he was brought here.”–bdnews24.com
