Mamunur Rashid :
Law enforcement agencies have failed to trace out the Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh’s (JMB), two top militants, who escaped from a prison van after an ambush by an armed gang on last Sunday morning.
The surprise attack has raised questions over the lax security measures of the law enforcers at the time of transporting three militants. Meanwhile, Rakib Hasan alias Hafez Mahmud (35), one of the convicts of the banned JMB was killed in a ‘shootout’ at Beltoil under Mirzapur upazila in Tangail district in the early hours of last Monday.
On last Sunday, a gang of armed goons ambushed a prison van, killed a police constable and snatched away convicts Rakib, Salahuddin and Boma Mizan at Trishal when they were being taken from the Kahsimpur jail in Gazipur district to a Mymensingh court.
But law enforcers have not yet been able to trace Salahuddin alias Salehin and Boma Mizan.
The elite RAB, the police and different intelligence agencies have also launched a massive crackdown.
Police has declared bounty of Tk 5 lakh for each head and the bordering areas have been put on red alert so that they cannot escape to any neighbouring country. Additional Deputy Inspector General (ADIG) of Police, Dhaka Range told the New Nation that at least 10 teams comprising RAB, police and different intelligence agencies have been working round the clock to arrest two fugitive convicts.
Wing Commander ATM Habibur Rahman, Director of the Legal and Media Wing of RAB told The New Nation yesterday that several teams of RAB were hunting the fugitive JMB men.
