Fuel price hike may impact market

The fuel price hike in the country may impact the kitchen market by increasing the prices of different vegetables and other products which can be felt from Saturday, said sellers.
They said although the price of most of the vegetables and other kitchen items including chicken, eggs, onion, oil, lentils has remained unchanged on Friday, the prices may increase tomorrow.
Mahfuz Alam, proprietor of Fatema Rice Agency in Karwan Bazar, said, “The price of rice has not increased in the last 10 days. We fear that it may increase in the coming days due to the fuel price jump.”  
Md Juel, manager of Ekota Trader, a wholesaler of lentils, told that “There is no impact of the fuel price hike on the wholesale level.”
Broiler chicken in Karwan Bazar sells at Tk110-120 per kg, layer chicken at Tk220-230 and Sonali chicken at Tk300-320 per kg. However, the price of mutton is Tk900-950 per kg and beef Tk600 per kg. “The price is almost the same as the last few days,” said traders.
Also, chicken eggs cost Tk110 per dozen and lentils Tk95-100 per kg.
Oil distributor Md Mishu said, “The price of soybean oil might be increased, the current stock is being sold at the previous price.”
In Kalshi bazar and Karwan Bazar, potato costs Tk25 per kg, onion Tk50-60 per kg, chili costs Tk90-100 per kg, cauliflower costs Tk40-50 and beans cost Tk120 per kg.
Onion wholesaler Mostafa said, “The demand for onions is higher on Friday. If the stock of onions reduces, the price might be increased.”
