Once he was simply a coolie (day labourer), now he is a millionaire. Surprisingly, he has no other source of income except selling physical labour.
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has summoned him to know how he gathered huge amount of wealth though his visible earning is not enough to maintain his family smoothly.
It becomes talk of the town now. His name is Hiron Miah. He works at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) as a
coolie (fourth class employee). He has allegedly stolen the passengers’ goods and baggage’s, those come from different countries, and gathered the illegal asset. Now he is the owner of two buildings and good amount of money deposited with different banks.
ACC sources said that it received several written allegations against Hiron Miah. Later, the ACC nominated Deputy-Director Md Nasir Uddin to investigate the allegations on June 27. ACC summoned Hiron Miah on August 19 to quiz and also asked him to bring related documents in favour of his wealth.
‘We are working to probe the allegations brought against Hiron Miah. But it is difficult to comment before completion of the investigation,” Nasir Uddin said.
According to the written allegations, Hiron Miah built two buildings in the city’s Dakshin Khan area. One is seven-storied and another is three-storied. The value of these buildings is nearly about Tk 20 crore. He has also assets valued at Tk 15 crore. He is now living in a luxury rented house at Sector No 7, in Uttara.
An employee of the HSIA wishing anonymity told The New Nation that they couldn’t believe that Hiron Miah is owner of huge assets. He also said that Hiron Miah was caught several times for theft.
Expressing astonishment, another fourth class employee said that he himself faces difficulties to maintain his family as he gets a small amount of money from the government. But how Hiron Miah gathered such wealth it’s a good question!
