A ninth grader succumbed to his injuries at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) on Wednesday morning. He was hacked allegedly by his friends in the city’s Shewrapara area Tuesday night.
The deceased has been identified as Sajib Mia, 16, son of Abdur Rashid, hailing from Kishoreganj district. He was a student of Holy Crescent School and College, West Shewrapara branch, police said.
Quoting the family members, Mirpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nazrul Islam said, “Three to four boys led by one Shourav and Rubel hacked Sajib with machetes when he went for shopping at a local kitchen market around 10:30pm on Tuesday.
Sajib was wounded in his right arm, chest and back of his body, the police official said.
Law enforcers detained Rubel and interrogated him in connection with the incident, the OC said.
“Primarily, we think the attack followed a previous feud among the teens,” he said.
Police are trying to detain the other attackers and filing of case is under process, the OC said.
