National Mourning Day observed: Fresh vow to materialise dreams of Bangabandhu to build ‘Sonar Bangla’

The National Mourning Day and 42nd martyrdom anniversary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was observed in different districts with various programmes yesterday .Our correspondents and agencies report:
Khulna (South) Correspondent reports: Like other parts of the country, National Mourning Day and 42nd martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was observed with due respect at 10 districts of Khulna Division on Tuesday .
Marking the Day, Khulna district administration, different social and cultural organizations arranged several programs including reciting the holy Quran, special prayers offering at Mosques, temples and churches for salvation of the departed souls of Bangabandhu and the other members who were also assassinated on the very day. The programs include hoisting of National flag at half mast atop government and non government buildings and black flags at Awami League’s party offices, wearing of black badges, placing wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Different government and non government organizations, political parties, educational institutions also observed the day with due respect. It is mentionable in this connection that on August 15 in 1975, some disgruntled army men brutally killed Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and members of his family.
BSS from Rangpur adds: The National Mourning Day- 2017 was observed at Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) yesterday with paying rich tribute to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Bangabandhu.
The observance began with hoisting of black flag and national flag at half mast at the administrative building followed by bringing out of a mourning procession, placing wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu at Independence Memorial on the campus. A one-minute silence was observed in front of the portrait of Bangabandhu.
Special munajats were offered at Central Mosque after Johr prayers seeking divine blessings for the departed souls of Bangabandhu and all other martyrs of black night of August 15 in 1975.
Deans of different faculties, heads of different departments, leaders of Begum Rokeya University Teachers’ Association (BRUTA), teachers, students, officials and employees took part in the programmes.
Later, Vice-chancellor Professor Dr Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah, BTFO, presided over a discussion on Bangabandhu held at the Central Cafeteria of the university.
In his speech, Professor Kalimullah announced for opening ‘Bangabandhu Corner’ in the university to preserve and maintain the memories of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Dean of the Faculty of Business Studies Professor Dr Ferdous Rahman, Administrator of the Department of Public Relations, Information and Publication Professor Dr Sharifa Salowa Dina, Convener of BRUR unit of Bangabandhu Parisahd Professor DR RM Hafizur Rahman, President of BRUTA Associate Professor Dr Abu Saleh Mohammad Wadudur Rahman, Registrar Muhammad Ibrahim Kabir, among others, addressed.
BSS from Rajshahi reports: People of Rajshahi and its adjoining districts today are observing the National Mourning Day and 42nd martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman with due solemnity.
The day is being observed with a fresh vow to materialize the dreams of Bangabandhu to build a ‘Sonar Bangla’ and to bring back the fugitive convicted killers of Bangabandhu to execute verdict of the murder case.
Various government and non-government organisations, political parties, socio-cultural organisations and educational institutions, including Rajshahi University and RUET, are observing the mournful day in a befitting manner.
The district administration organised a discussion meeting and Doa Mahfil at the Shilpakala Academy Auditorium with Deputy Commissioner Helal Mahmud Sharif in the chair.
A large number of people including government and non- government officials, freedom fighters, political leaders and socio-cultural activists were present at the meeting.
Local units of Bangladesh Awami League hoisted the party flags at half-mast in the morning and placed wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Portrait of Father of the Nation located Bangabandhu Chattar of the city at was garlanded by various organisations, including Sammilita Sangskritik Jote, district unit of Bangabandhu (BB) Parishad, BB Prokoushali Parishad, BB RUET Parishad and Ila Mitra Sangskritik Sangha.
Marking the day, children artistes of Ila Mitra Sangha presented songs highlighting the life and works of Bangabandhu.
Various other political personalities and social leaders, including AHM Khairuzzaman Liton, Bazlar Rahman and Shafiqur Rahman Badsha of Awami League, Liakat Ali Liku of Workers Party, Mustafizur Rahman Khan of NAP and City FF Commander Dr Abdul Mannan garlanded the portrait of Bangabandhu on AL office premises.
Discussion meetings on the life and works of Bangabandhu were also arranged at all schools, colleges, madrasas and special milad mahfils and prayers are being offered at all religious institutions.
Improved diets are being served to inmates of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital and other hospitals, Rajshahi Central Jail, orphanages, Shishu paribars and vagabond centres.
Painting competition, essay writing, Hamd and Nat, recitation of poems and discussion meetings focusing Bangabandhu and true national history were arranged at the Shishu Academy. The upazila administration and upazila units of AL and its front organisations and Muktijoddha Sangshad have also adopted day-long programmes to observe the day.
