Independence Day observed: Fresh vow to build prosperous BD, banning Jamaat-Shibir demanded

The Independence and National Day was celebrated in different districts through various programmes on Wednesday in a befitting manner with due respect and taking fresh vow to build a prosperous and peaceful Bangladesh.Our Correspondents and agencies report:
Barisal Correspondent reports: The glorious 44th anniversary of Independence of Bangladesh was observed in Barisal with three-day programmes calling for speedy trial and capital punishment of all war criminals, banning Jamaat-Shibir and rejecting anti-liberation forces in all spheres of life on Wednesday.
National Anthem was performed simultaneously by the participants of the programmes at different venues at 11:00 am of the day.
Barisal Reporters Unity organized the exceptional programme of “Muktijuddher Kotha Bola’ (Tales of Liberation War) by veteran freedom fighters Nurjahan Begum, Mokhlesur Rahman and Prodip Kumar Ghosh Putul.
BRU also arranged a children-juvenile painting competition on this occasion there.
Barisal University arranged a seminar presided over by Vice-Chancellor- Dr. Harunor Rashid at its premises with the key-notes on political and war strategy of Bangabandu by Mohammad Tanvir Kaisar, assistant professor English department and giving reception of freedom fighter Nurjahan Begum.
Barisal University Officers Association arranged a day-long exhibition of documents and books on liberation war at the BU premises with the help of Barisal Reporters Unity.
Barisal Sangskritik Sangothan Samanya Parishad (BSSSP), an alliance of the 26 major cultural organizations of the city, arranged the programme from 6:30 pm every day from Monday at Barisal Central Shaheed Minar.
The 3-day programmes of BSSSP included discussion, performing cultural functions, dance, and drama, patriotic, folk and mass-song.
People and different organizations paid tributes at the Liberation War Memorial Monument at early morning of Independence Day.
Narsingdi Correspondent says: The 44nd Independence and National Day was celebrated here with due respect on Wednesday.
The programmes includes heralded with 31 gun salute at police prade ground, placing of floral wreaths at shaheed Minar early in the morning, National flag were hoisted atop public and private buildings. The buildings were illuminated and the town’s important streets and points were decorated with colorful banners and festoons.
March past by police ansar, school students and other organisations, screening of documentary on liberation war and reception to freedom fighters were the main features of the day. All the government officials including DC Narsingdi Obaidul Azam, SP Narsingdi Dr. Khandakar Mohid Uddin, ADC general Suriaya Begum, ADC (Rev) Kamal Hossain, Muktijoddha commander Mothalaeb Pathan, Civil surgeon Dr. Rashaid ahamad.
Chapainawabganj Correspondent reports: The Independence and National Day was celebrated in a befitting manner in Chapainawabganj district on Wednesday.
The day’s programmes started with the gun salutes and offering of the wreaths of flowers at the foot of the monument of the martyred freedom fighters. Wreaths of flowers were also offered at the portrait of the father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
A grand march past participated by police, Ansar, freedom fighters, government orphanage, BNCC, Girl Guides, scouts and cubs of different organizations, schools and colleges and other socio-cultural organizations was held at Chapainawabganj stadium. Deputy Commissioner of Chapainawabganj Sardar Sarafat Ali took the salute as chief guest.
Committee of the Concerned Citizens (CCC), Chapainawabganj of Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) took out a colourful rally which started from its office and ended at the monument of the martyred freedom fighters with placing wreaths of flowers. They also arranged mobile advice and information desk in front of the stadium.
Manikganj Correspondent reports: Upazila Administration of Shibalaya in Manikganj arranged different programmes to mark the 44th Independence and National Day on Wednesday.
 The days programme started with hoisting of national flag. A discussion reception was held with the respect of freedom fighters. Shibalaya UNO AKM Galiv Khan was chaired the function where Shibalaya Upazila Chairman Abdur Rahim Khan, Assistant Commissioner (Land) Nahid Farzana Siddique, Freedom fighters Advocate Abul Kashim, Abul Monjusr, Rezaur Rahaman Khan Janu, Sayed Jalil Uddin Ahmed, Abul Kashem, AL leaders Bikash Chandra Saha, Abdul Quddus, among other spoke at the function. A cultural function was held in the evening.
BSS from Gaibandha says: The great Independence and National Day was celebrated in the district on Wednesday in a befitting manner, with due respect and taking fresh vow to build a happy, prosperous and peaceful Bangladesh.
In the celebration of the day, district administration, various cultural organizations, political parties and educational institutions chalked out the elaborate programmes.
The day’s programme began through placing wreaths by district administration, police department, district Muktijodha Sangshad, district Awami League (AL), district BNP, Jatiya party and other political parties, district BMA, educational institutions and sociocultural organizations at the monument of the Poura Park of the town at midnight at 12.01 am.
The day was heralded with 31 gun salutes at Independence Square of the town here at the time of sun rising and national flag was hoisted atop all public and private buildings just after sun rise.
Later, an impressive march past by police, ansar, VDP, BNCC, scouts, students of Govt. Shishu Paribars, school and colleges was held at the local stadium at 9 am.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) M. Ehsan-e-Elahi and superintendent of police (SP) M. Mofazel Hossain took salute as the chief guest and special guest respectively.
BSS from Rangpur reports: The Independence and National Day-2014 was observed in Rangpur division on Wednesday with a fresh vow to build a Sonar Bangla as dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Celebrations of the Day got a special height when thousands of people participated in the national anthem singing programme of ‘Lakho Konthe Sonar Bangla’ at all district and upazila headquarters and other important places at around 11:20 am.
The people of all ages and professions spontaneously gathered at the Shaheed Minars, stadiums, grounds of the educational intuitions and open places and took part in the programme making the new world record.
The district administrations had chalked out programmes including hoisting of national flag atop all government, semi-government, private and public buildings, institutions, arranged receptions to the freedom fighters (FFs) and family members of martyred FFs.
The observance began through heralding 31 gun salutes and placing of wreaths at the Central Shaheed Minars, Independence Memorials and monuments of the martyred FFs at the district headquarters at the zero hours.
Colourful rallies, march pasts of the FFs, police, Ansar and VDP, scouts, girls in scout, fire service and civil defense personnel, jail guards, BNCC, students and children and screening of documentary films at cinema halls and open places were organised.
Different competitions for the children on independence, sports competitions, cultural functions, discussion meetings, prize distribution ceremonies and colourful cultural functions were arranged.

The day’s programme began with 31-gun salute at Police line before dawn followed by hoisting of national flag atop all public and private buildings.
People of all walks of life paid tributes by placing floral wreaths at the plaque of the martyred freedom fighters of 1971 located in the Goalchamat area of the town.
An independence rally consisting of people of all sheds and opinion paraded the town streets from Goalchamat to Sk Jamal stadium and also paid tributes to a mass grave praying for the salvation of departed soul of the martyrs killed by Pakistani army on the stadium premises in 1971.
A rally and march past by Police, Ansars, VDP, BNCC, Scout and students of educational institutions was held at the stadium where the DC Abu Hena Morshed Zaman and Police Super M Zamil Hassan took salute after hoisting the national flag ceremonially.
The students of different educational institutions showed physical display of various arts enthralling the audience present in the venue.
The program of ‘Lakho Konthe Sonar Bangla’ singing of National Anthem in chorus, by some around 5 thousand people, was sung at the stadium at 11am.
A reception to the families of freedom fighters of the district was held at Kabi Jasimuddin hall.
Special prayer was offered at all mosques, temples and churches praying for the peace and prosperity of the country. Improved diet was served at jail, hospitals and orphanages of the district.
In the afternoon a fancy football match was played at the stadium.
A discussion meeting on the great liberation war and independence day was held at Kabi Jasimuddin hall in the evening followed by a cultural function.
The discussion was presided over by ADM Md Khalilur Rahman while DC Abu Hena Morshed Zaman was the chief guest.
It was addressed, among others, by Rajendra College
Principal Prof Mahbubur Rahman, Sarada Sundary Mahilla Collge Principal Prof Hasina Banu, Sramik League leader Akkas Hossain Mia and Krishak League leader MA Batin.
