OMS of essentials needed to resist price- hike: Ctg AL for controlling price spiral of essentials

President of Chittagong City Awami League and former Mayor of Chittagong A B M Mohiuddin Chowdhury alleged that the trader’s syndicate are creating man-made crisis of rice and increasing the prices recently. “They are also hiking the prices of essentials for more profit by making the people hostage.”
Addressing the meeting of Bijoy Mela Porishad on Thursday evening at his residence at Chashma Hill in the port city, Mohiuddin Chowdhury said the Chittagong Chamber of commerce and Industry and other chambers are silent in price hike.
The traders organizations are not feeling the crisis of common people. So, the traders are hiking prices of essentials including rice, onion etc, he pointed out. Chowdhury called upon the government to control the price hike and remove the sufferings of the common people by introducing either rationing system or Open Market Sale(OMS) . the speakers in the meeting opined for immediate rationing of rice, oil, sugar, wheat through fair price shops or OMS through registered foodstuff dealers on areawise in urban and rural areas.
The meeting was chaired by A B M Mohiuddin Chowdhury. Among others, Mohammad Younus, Aha-medur Rahman Siddiki, Alhaj Badiul Alam, M A Mansur, Jahangir Chow-dhury, Mohammad Shahajan, Amol Mitra, Pantu Lal Shaha, Sheikh Ifthekhar Saimul Chow-dhury, Tapon Barua also addressed the meeting.
