Staff Reporter :
The BNP-led 20-party alliance has called for a fresh spell of 72-hour countrywide hartal from tomorrow (Sunday) alongside ongoing countrywide blockade in demand of fresh election under a non-party government system.
BNP Joint-Secretary General Salahuddin Ahmed, on behalf of the alliance, in a statement on Friday announced the shutdown programme. The shutdown will begin at 6:00 am on Sunday and will continue until 6:00 am on Wednesday if it is not extended further as the alliance did earlier thrice.
The hartal was also called for protesting the killings of leaders and workers of the alliance in the name of crossfire, enforced disappearances, abductions, mass arrest of the 20-party men and common people, the government’ interference in the judiciary and control over the media.
Besides, the alliance will stage demonstrations in all districts, upazilas and thana headquarters on Monday on the same issues.
The BNP-led alliance enforced countrywide hartal on all working days since February 1, forcing the authorities concerned to reschedule the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examination that fell during the hartal hours.
The fresh of 72-hour hartal was announced hours after the end of the five-day hartal on Friday morning.
