Staff Reporter :
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Friday said “There are no alternatives but to hold a fresh national poll to resolve the prevailing militancy and other crises in the country.”
“The government is not earnest in this regard. But it should know that the national poll is the only way,” he opined while talking to a group of journalists at his residence in Uttara.
Mirza Fakhrul was critical of the government and said, “It is not easy to fight against a non-democratic system.”
He was however optimistic that the people will organise a strong agitation against the government at length.
He also asked the government to sit with the BNP and other democratic parties to hold a fair and neutral national election.
Mirza Fakhrul said, people fear to talk and write against the ruling party leaders’ mismanagement.
“What we are talking right now is a big matter. You, the journalists, cannot write anything against the government. We have not blamed the journalists because there is no way to write anything against the government,” Mirza Fakhrul said.
The BNP leader said if any democratic government remains in power, then the Rampal coal based power project would not have taken place.
