Fresh landslide in Bandarban

A 19-year old girl was killed and five others went missing in a fresh landslide at Danial Para in Roangchhori upazila of Bandarban district on Sunday morning.
The deceased was identified as Sing Moya La, 19, of Mong Swe Pru village in Ruma upazila. Out of five missing persons two have been identified as Singmech, 17 and Munni Barua, 35.
Local people and police said when at least eight people were crossing the road near Danial Para at about 11:00am a huge chunk of mud collapsed on them leaving the teenaged girl dead on the spot and injuring many others.
Besides, five other people still remain missing, Md Rafiqullah, Officer-in-Charge of Bandarban Sadar Police Station told journalists. The local army team rescued three people alive, he added.
 “Locals and fire fighters recovered the body of Sing Moya La. But the missing five people have not been traced yet,” he said.
The OC said police, local army camp and fire fighters continued to rescue operation as the landslide blocked the Bandarban-Ruma Road.
 “My one sister was killed in the landslide while another remains missing,” victim’s brother Chain Kya U told journalists.
Local people said a bus carrying passengers from Bandarban was going to Ruma but the vehicle stopped near Danial Para area as it failed to move forward due to dilapidated condition of the road.
The conductor of the bus asked the passengers to get down at Danial Para at about 11:00am and requested them to go on foot.
As they were crossing the road near Danial Para suddenly a huge chunk of mud collapsed on them leaving the girl dead on the on the spot and many others, said the local people.
State Minister for CHT Affairs Bir Bahadur, MP, Army Region Commander Brigadier General M Jubaer Salehin, Sadar Army Zone Commander Lt Col. Mosiur Rahman, and Deputy Commissioner Dilip Kumar Banik visited the spot.
