Frequent rains make city life miserable

Dhaka residents face severe troubles as rainfall continued on Wednesday.
Intermittent rains over the last few days have been disrupting city life – whether officer-goers and students.
It was like the previous day.
The frequent rain triggered by a depression over the Bay of Bengal.
The rainy weather created huge traffic gridlock across the country which made office and workplace bound commuters’ agony.
Meanwhile, number of foreign bound passengers also missed their flights due to acute traffic gridlock on the Airport road to Gazipur city, sources said.
Meanwhile, different renovation work, road digging, construction work of Metro rail project and Elevated Expressway, and such other activities also are creating obstacles to speedy vehicular movements.
Airport Road, DIT Road, Khilgaon level crossing, Basabo, Maniknagar, Saidabad, Jatrabari, Gulistan, Fakirapool, Paltan, Shahbagh, Kakrail, Banglamator, Caravan Bazar, Banani, Mohakhali, Mirpur, Farmgate, Kawran Bazar and adjacent areas became paralised with the traffic gridlock for hours after hours.
In the morning on Wednesday, many were seen walking along the pavements in the rain due to lack of vehicles.
The number of motorized vehicles on the road was fewer compared to other working days due to the rain.
Rickshaws and CNG-run autorickshaws were charging commuters higher fares, taking advantage of the weather and the lack of public transports.
The rain caused the low-income people, including day labourers less work.
Numbers of the city people were forced to stay indoors due to the light to moderate rains throughout the day.
Commuters faced problems in reaching their workplaces due to acute traffic jam triggered by the rain.
The Met office predicted that light to moderate rain or thundershower accompanied by temporary gusty or squally wind was likely to occur at most places over Rajshahi, Rangpur, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Barishal, Khulna, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions with moderately heavy to very heavy rainfall.
The rain started on Tuesday night and which may be continued till Friday morning, weather offices said.
The Met office has recorded 53mm of rainfall in the 24 hours from 6am on Tuesday till 6am Wednesday, said Mohammad Omar Faruk, a meteorologist.
