Anisul Islam Noor :Load shedding often occurs in the city because of the short supply of electricity from 200 mw to 300mw daily. Dhanmondi, Mohammadpur, Kawranbazar, Eskaton, Paltan and Segunbagicha are the most hit areas.Power Development Board (PDB) said, some times supply is less than demand. On Tuesday, Dhaka Power Distribution Company (DPDC) was supplied 790mw against the demand for 1100mw and Dhaka Electricity Supply Company (DESCO) received 514mw against the demand for750mw. But Power Ministry and PDB claimed that load shedding had been overcome to a great extent. The PDB officials said that load shedding occurred due to problem in the distribution lines. A number of underground electricity supply cables become inactive and get damaged when bridges, flyover or service lines are constructed or reformed in the city. It hampers supply line. But experts differed with the PDB’s real account of supply and demand, admitting that load shedding had been cut short to a great extent, at least in the Dhaka city.Prime Minister’s Energy Adviser Dr Tawfiq-e- Elahi Chowdhury said, sometimes load shedding reminds the people of the past situation “Load shedding might take place to some extent to keep the memory of the past. This is also a blessing of Allah. If there is no load shedding, how people will praise the improvement achieved in the sector,” he said.
