FREE project activities begin for Gaibandha flood victims

Activities of Flood Recovery & Empowerment (FREE) project for flood victims began in project command areas of the district on Tuesday.
An inaugural ceremony was also held at Kamarjani Union Parishad (UP) office under Sadar upazila in the district at noon with UP Chairman Abdus Salam Jakir in the chair.
District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer AKM Idris Ali addressed the function as the chief guest and Upazila Agriculture Officer AKM Sadiqul Islam was present as the special guest.
AKM Idris Ali in his speeches thanked the donor organizations for introducing the project here to help the underprivileged flood hit families of the unions.
Later, the guests formally inaugurated the project works through cutting earth and distributing five kinds of vegetable seed, showers and spray machines to the project beneficiaries at Kunderpara of the union.
Earlier, programme manager of RDRS Bangladesh Porsia Rahman made a welcome speech and said the project work would be carried out in Kamarjani and Mollarchar unions under Sadar upazila and Horipur and Kapasia unions of Sundarganj upazila till April, 2018.
With the financial support of UKAID and in cooperation with United Nations Office of project and Dan Church, RDRS Bangladesh would implement the project, she also said.
A total of 3300 flood affected families of the unions were brought under the programme and each of the beneficiaries would be provided with vegetable seed and agri-inputs worth TK 750, cash TK 4000 for livelihood, TK 1000 for awareness training, and TK 4000 against money for work, she added.
Apart from it, sanitary latrines installation, repairing tube wells and homestead raising activities would be done under the project for the selected beneficiaries, she further added.
A large number of beneficiaries, public representatives, and local elite including journalists of the print and electronic media took part in the programme.
