Fraudsters active with education stipends in Bhangura

The fraudsters are sending messages on their mobile phones saying that they will give stipends to the students of different educational institutions in Bhangura upazila of Pabna. It is mentioned in the message that you are getting Tk.4,500 because of Corona virus. For this, they were asked to contact the Education Board’s mobile number 01828605821 between 10 AM and 11 AM. When some students talk on the phone, they are instructed to bkash 500 taka quickly. Two students also send money. When another student reported the matter to the headmaster, it was known to be the work of a fraudulent ring. A student, who did not want to be named, said that some of his classmates had sent bKash to that number for Tk 500.
Md. Rafiqul Islam ,Acting Principal of Government Bhangura Union School and College said that after being informed about the matter on Saturday, the students have been instructed to remain vigilant about the fraudsters.
Upazila Secondary Education Officer Md. Saiful Alam said that the fraudsters are using the message even to the reference of the Ministry of Education to make it credible to the students. He further said that any instruction regarding stipend is communicated to the Upazila Secondary Education Office or the head of the concerned institution, not to the students. Therefore, according to the fraudster, he advised to refrain from sending any kind of money to the bkash number.
Teacher beaten by chairman’s followers
A teacher was beaten by the followers of the angry chairman as he did not get a seat in the selection ceremony of inter-primary sports and cultural competition. His name is Habibur Rahman. In this attack, the sports event has also become a suspended. The incident took place on Saturday (May 28) in Khanmarich Union of Bhangura Upazila in Pabna.
It is learned that 28 schools of the union were divided into two parts and selection was arrenged in sports and cultural competitions on Saturday. On this occasion students and teachers of fourteen schools gathered at Chandipur playground. When Union Chairman Monowar Hossain Khan (Mithu) attended the function at noon, he was not given a respectable seat. As a result, he left.
Later,Habibur Rahman,Head Teacher of Dasmarich Primary School went to the chairman’s office at chandipur Bazar on the advice of the Upazila Assistant Education Officer Md Selim Reja.
Then the chairman’s followers Taukir, Masud and Abul Kalam chased away the teacher and beat him. They later vandalized the stage. As a result, the sport became a suspended.
Beaten teacher Habibur Rahman(57), said his men beat him with bamboo sticks at the behest of the chairman. He survived with the help of his colleagues. He has demanded a fair trial.
UP Chairman Monowar Hossain Khan said, “The teachers invited me but they did not make arrangements for me to sit down. They had a heated argument with my supporters.” He also claimed that no teacher had been beaten in my presence.
 Upazila Assistant Education Officer Md. Selim Reza admitted the incident of beating of the teacher and said that the teachers are very angry for the unfortunate incident. The matter has been reported to the upazila administration.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mohammad Nahid Hasan Khan said that after hearing the incident, the Upazila Education Officer has been asked to investigate and report. He also said that legal action would be taken against those involved in the beating of teachers.
