UNB, Dhaka :
BNP standing committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy on Saturday alleged that an ‘organised group’ is trying to extort money from some Bangladeshi expatriates opening a fake Facebook account against his name.
Speaking at a press briefing at BNP’s Nayapaltan central office, he said he has already lodged a general diary (GD) with Keraniganj Police Station in this connection.
The BNP leader urged law enforcers to trace the
swindlers and bring them to justice. “An organised group of frauds is creating confusion by demanding money from Bangladeshi expatriates opening a fake Facebook account against my name and using my national ID card,” he told the press briefing.
Gayeshwar observed that the frauds are now deceiving people in various ways misusing the information and communication technology (ICT). “Many people, not only me, are being subjected to victims by the organised gangs.”
The BNP leader said, someone phoned Akbar Hossain, a Bangladesh expatriate living in Japan, using phone numbers 01878420644 and 01723020066 demanding money from him in his name.
He alleged that the same gang also sought money from Fazlur Rahman, another expatriate living in the UK in his name. “The frauds contacted them through the fake Facebook book and asked them to contact over 01878420644 and 01723020066 numbers.
Gayeshwar said he came to know about the matter when Akbar and Fazlur contacted him informing the incident. He said, the same way money was also sought from another Bangladeshi expatriate living in Kuwait in his name.
Gayeshwar said he has only a Facebook account which is not used regularly. “I’ve no other Facebook ID rather than it. I hope those who have created Facebook accounts in my name will stop those from yesterday. I’ll be forced to take legal action if those fake accounts are not deactivated.”
