Eintracht Frankfurt did little to allay its Bundesliga relegation fears with a scoreless draw at home to Hamburger SV on Friday.
Hamburg’s Artjoms Rudnevs had the first big chance after combining with Aaron Hunt in the 25th minute, only for Frankfurt goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky to pull off a good save.
The visitors continued to take the initiative, defender Gotoku Sakai firing over before Nicolai Mueller wasted a great chance before the break.
Frankfurt improved after the interval, when Makoto Hasebe’s effort was just a whisker off the far post. Stefan Aigner went close later on only to be blocked by Hamburg ‘keeper Rene Adler at his near post.
“With a bit of luck we could have decided the game with that chance for Aigner,” Frankfurt chairman Heribert Bruchhagen said. “HSV were confident, strong and they made it difficult for us.”
Bruchhagen criticized Frankfurt fans who set off flares behind one of the goals.
“It’s not in our interest, it harms us,” the Frankfurt chairman said.
Frankfurt was just two points of the relegation zone ahead of the rest of the 22nd round.
“I’m very confident that the team is good enough to survive. We’re obliged to get points and that’s what we’ll do,” Bruchhagen said.
Hamburg moved provisionally 10th.
“We had good chances. We have to make sure we continue like that in the next game and that we get them there,” midfielder Gideon Jung said.
