The Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) in an eviction drive in the Banani area on Thursday removed illegal structures, signboards, banners, festoons and street vendors from the footpath.
The Mobile Court sentenced four street vendors to five days imprisonment
each for street grabbing. Executive Magistrate Zinia Zinnat passed the order.
Some 200 makeshift shops and structures were evicted from Banani DNCC market area.
The Mobile Court fined them Tk 40,000 for keeping construction materials on the road and footpath by grabbing and for air pollution in the area.
No one will be allowed to do business occupying footpaths and causing sufferings to the public, said Magistrate Zinia Zinnat.
The drive against illegal encroachers will continue, she added.
