Four killed in Tangail road crash

At least four people were killed and one person was injured when a truck rammed into a pick-up on the Dhaka-Tangail Bangabandhu Bridge Highway at Jokarchar in Kalihati upazila on Saturday.
The deceased were identified as Abdul Hamid, 48, executive director of a non-government organisation named Ananya in Sujanagar upazila of Pabna district, its deputy director Mohammad Azim Uddin,46, employee Mokhlesur Rahman,45, and driver Mostafa Hasan,40.
The injured was deputy assistant director of the NGO, Mohamamd Alauddin, 47.
The accident took place in the area around 8:00 am when a truck from Dhaka hit a Dhaka-bound pick-up from Pabna, leaving four riders of the pick-up killed on the spot and another injured, said Mohammad Akheruzzaman, officer-in-charge of Bangabandhu Bridge East Police Station.
UNB correspondent from Pabna reports: All the victims met the tragic accident while going to their office in Dhaka.
Razibul Islam Babu, assistant director of ‘Ananya’, confirmed the death of the two directors and two staff of the NGO.
Being informed, police recovered the bodies and kept those at Bangabandhu Bridge East Police Station.
Injured Mohamamd Alauddin was taken to National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation in the capital. A pal of gloom descended upon the area following the incident.
