At least four people were killed and two others injured as a truck collided with a CNG-run auto-rickshaw at Charbhabla near the Bangabandhu Bridge (East) Police Station on Tuesday night.
The deceased were identified as Golam Kibria,40, a resident of Malati village in Kalihati upazila; Niranjan Saha,35, a resident of Adarvita village in Madarganj upazila of Jamalpur district, Nurul Islam 45, a resident of Kharkharia village in Sadar upazila of the district, and the auto-rickshaw driver, Faruk Hossain,30, a resident of Charpauli village in Sadar upazila of Tangail.
Bangabandhu Bridge (East) Police Station sub-inspector Kutub Uddin said the accident took place around 11:45 pm when the speeding truck collided with the auto-rickshaw coming from the opposite direction, leaving three auto-rickshaw passengers and its driver dead on the spot and its two other passengers injured.
The injured were rushed to Tangail Medical College Hospital. Informed, police recovered the bodies and sent those to the hospital morgue for autopsy. Police also seized the truck but its driver managed to escape. A case was filed in this connection.
