Four journalists, a driver injured in attack in Jessore

Five journalists and a driver of a private TV channel were injured in an attack by some rowdy elements on the opening day of the Bangabandhu Gold Cup Football tournament held at Jessore Stadium at 8:30pm on Friday.
The incident took place when driver Alauddin of the micro-bus carrying a group of journalists protested the dashing of the micro-bus by a private car at a parking place near the Garikhana Road in Jessore town.
The injured journalists are Ivan Ikram, Sports Reporter of Channel 24, SM Tauhdur Rahman, Staff Correspondent of the Channel and Jessore Press
Club secretary, Photographer Ripon Hossain, SM Farhad, Ekattor TV’s Jessore Correspondent, Rahul Roy, Jessore Correspondent of Maasranga Television, and Alauddin, driver of Channel 24 micro-bus.
Of the injured Ripon Hossain and Alauddin were admitted to Jessore Medical College and Hospital in a critical condition.
SM Tauhidur Rahman told The New Nation that Abdur Rahman Kakon, General Secretary, Jessore town unit of the Sainik League and his hired goondas carried out the attack as driver Alauddin protested the hitting of the microbus by a private car.
The police arrested Sainik League leader Abdur Rahman Kakon and recovered some illegal drugs, said Sikder Akkas Ali, Officer in-Charge, Kotwali Police Station to The New Nation.
The OC said also that raiding the Sainik League office, police recovered 10 sticks, seven iron rods, four boxes of bombs making materials, an iron pipe and a chain of a bicycle. The police also sealed off the office. A case was lodged with Kotwali police station in this connection.
