Four held for severing NGO worker’s wrist

Members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have arrested four people, including two muggers, in a case filed over a chopping off of the left hand of a female NGO worker in Narsingdi district town on Tuesday.
The arrested are Rubel Miah, 22, Badsha Miah, Mahbuba Akhter Merina, 22, and Mithi Begum, 26.
RAB-11 commander Lt Col Khandaker Saiful Alam said that acting on a tip-off, a team of the elite force conducted a drive in Madhabdi Bus Stand area on Wednesday night and arrested the four accused.
RAB seized Tk1.91 in cash and a mobile phone set of the victim from their possession.
On December 15, two muggers intercepted Shanta Akhter, 31, a loan officer of ASA, in Paschim Kandapara area at noon and chopped off her left hand from the wrist when she resisted giving them her handbag. The muggers then snatched away the bag and fled the scene with Tk2 lakh.
