Four get life term for gauging out eyes of college student in Babuganj

A trial court in Barisal on Tuesday afternoon sentenced four accused to life term imprisonment for gauging out eyes of college student in Babuganj of Barisal.
The life term sentenced four accused were Masud Alam Mridha, Kalam Mridha, Kamal Haoladar, Mehedi Hasan Raju and each of them also fined Tk 10 thousand or to serve more two-year imprisonment in default.
Sayem Farazi, Arif Mridha, Halim Gharami, Md. Tusar, Siraj Boyati, five others of the total 12 accused, sentenced to different terms of imprisonments.
Moktar Hossain, Shafiul Alam Shahin, Imrul Farazi, 3 other accused, ordered to be released founding them non guilty.
Anisur Rahman, judge of Barisal speedy trial tribunal, announced this verdict in presence of the accused after examining 8 out of 10 witnesses and other evidences.
Advocate A K M Jahangir Hossain, public prosecutor of the court, quoting case documents said Rafikul Islam Mridha, brother of Masud Mridha, were beaten by unknown miscreants at Baherchar Bazar under Babuganj upazila of Barisal on September 2, 2014 night.
Masud Mridha suspected his rival Rahat Reza Rakib, student of Babuganj degree college, for the offence.
So to retaliate Masud and his associates abducted Rakib on way to return home from college and bringing Rakib to the side of Charkanda Mora Danga Canal gouged out his both eyes on September 4 , 2014 afternoon.
Rakib later rescued by his family members and Selim Haoladar, father of the victim lodged a case with Babuganj Police station on September 7, 2014 against the 18 accused.
Sub Inspector Abu Zafar, investigation officer of the case, filed charge sheet against 12 out of 18 accused on November 13, 2014.
