Police arrested four including an Awami League leader, on Sunday night from a gambling venue in Hijla upazila of Barishal district.
Hijla Police Station OC Yunus Mia confirmed that the four detainees were handed over to the mobile court of Upazila Nirbahi Officer Bakul Chandra Kabiraj on the same night.
According to the police, gambling was going on in the tea shop of Mainul Mollah in Ghosherchar Sluicegate Bazar of Guabaria Union of the upazila from 8 pm till late at night. Police raided the store on Sunday night on a tip-off.
At that time, four people were arrested for gambling in the shop. Gambling equipment and Rs 1,300 in cash were recovered from them.
Later, the mobile court sentenced the gamblers to one month imprisonment.
