Former UP member murdered in feud over football match in Mehendiganj

An ex-member of union parished was murdered in feud over football match and old rivalry in Mehendiganj upazila of the district on Saturday afternoon.
The victim was identified as Fakhrul Islam,45, son of Abul Hossain Haoladar alias Chan of Chargogla village and former union parishad member of Mehendiganj Upazila sadar, said Kamal Chandra Dey, sub-inspector of Mehendiganj police station.
The incidents took place at Hawlader Bari of the village, at about 12:00 noon over playing football,
quoting family members and local sources, police told.
Sources claimed families of Arif Hossain have old rivalry over spreading supremacy in the area with Omar Baga and Sharif Bagha of the same village.
Recently both group engaged in clash over a football match played on Balurmath of the village.
Former UP member Fakhril Islam negotiated that amicably soon after the clash.
However on Friday it was found that goalpost of the field was stolen.
Then on Saturday noon Arif Hossain and Fakrul asked Omar and Sharif how it was happened after the dispute was settled amicably.
During altercation about the issue both sides engaged clash at Howlader Bari premises.
That time Sharif Bagha suddenly hit on head of Fakhrul with a wooden stick, told Rubel, relative of the victim and Humayun Haoladar, local UP member.
Fakhrul became critically injured by that hit and sent to Barishal Sher E Bangla Medical College Hospital by speed boat, but attending doctor Abul Hasnat Russel of emergency unit of the hospital declared him as dead, police sources added.
Dead body of the deceased sent to Barishal Sher-E- Bangla Medical College Hospital for autospy and no case was lodged till this report, Abidur Rahman, officer in charge of Mehendiganj police station said.##
