Staff Report :
The district administration of Patuakhali has demolished the ancestral house of the former MP Golam Mawla Rony on the allegation that the residence was illegally constructed on the government property.
However, Rony claimed that the house had belonged to his father and their family members have been living there since 1960.
He said he was stunned how the local administration can demolish his house when there was a writ petition with the High Court in this regard.
He also said that he would go to the court on Wednesday to inform the matter.
Golachipa Upazila administration sources said that Golam Mawla Rony constructed a two-story building illegally when he had taken the land at Chandivita of Ulania Bondor from the government for one year arrangement.
Though the local administration served several notices to him to remove the establishment from the government property, no steps were taken. So the district administration conducted the drive.
Golachipa Upazila Nirbahi Officer and Executive Magistrate Ashishi Kumar said, “The Patuakhali district administration conducted the drive and demolished about 15-20 illegal establishments. It was not a drive against any special person. We have recovered some 30 decimals of government lands from the drive.”
“None is allowed to construct any establishment on the government lands. Our drive against illegal establishment will continue,” he added.
