It appears that the Satchharhi National Park has turned into an armoury, as cache of arms and ammunition are found in the reserved forest a few days after when drive is conducted there.
The members of the law enforcing agencies have already conducted four drives in the reserved forest within four and half months and recovered huge caches of arms and ammunition.
Members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in their fourth drive at the forest in Chunarughat upazila in Habiganj district on Friday also recovered huge cache of fresh arms and ammunition. It appears that more arms and ammunition will also be recovered from the dense forest, as the RAB members are continuing their drive.
They recovered 9,500 bullets, 80 magazines, five wireless
sets and a radio set during their fresh drive at the reserve forest. The recovered ammunition included 8,360 rounds of 7.62 MM rifle bullets, 152 rounds of 7.62 303 rifles, 517 bullets of 9MM pistols and 425 rounds of 12.7MM bullets.
Commanding officer of RAB-9 Wing Commander Riad Hasan Rabbani revealed the information in a press briefing at Satchharhi in the noon. The drive will be continued to search more arms and ammunition, he said.
The RAB personnel on Wednesday evening started the drive. The elite force recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition, including three machine guns, four spare barrels and eight magazines, from the jungles also on Thursday morning.
Arms and ammunition recovered during the drives have similarity with those of the 10-truck haul in Chittagong and the one-truck haul in Bogra, said Riad Hasan Rabbani.
In previous three drives — first one on June 3, second one on September 2 and the third one on September 17 — RAB recovered arms and ammunition from the jungle.
About 300 rocket launchers, huge anti-tank explosives, mortar shells, chargers of rocket launchers, nine SMGs, one SNC, one beta gun, one auto rifle, six SLRs, two LMGs, one slipper stereoscope sight and 2,400 rounds of bullet.
