Staff Reporter :
The Ministry of Home Affairs has decided to impose restriction on foreigners visiting the three districts of Chittagong Hill Tracts — Rangamati, Khagrachhari and Bandarban.
As per the latest government decision, the ministry will reinforce the provision of “no free passes” for foreigners visiting the CHT region.
According to the Home Ministry order, the foreigners will have to submit an application to the home ministry before one month of their scheduled visit.
When contacted, Deputy Commissioner [DC] of Bandarban Mizanul Haq Chowdhury yesterday said the foreigners would only be allowed to visit the districts if they could obtain a positive report after scrutiny of their applications.
The DC also said the foreign envoys would take permission from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as well.
Earlier, foreigners had to take permission only from the local DC’s office. But from January 8, they were taking permission from the Home Ministry, he further said.
