About $3.1 billion (Tk 26,400 crore) is being sent abroad illegally from Bangladesh annually according to a report of Transparency International Bangladesh.
In this way, it is depriving the government of about Tk 12,000 crore as revenue each year.
According to the report, at least 2.5 lakh foreigners from 44 countries are employed in Bangladesh, working in more than 20 trades in both regular and irregular ways.
TIB revealed the report titled, ‘Employment of Foreigners in Bangladesh: Challenge of Good Governance and Way Forward’ at TIB’s Dhanmondi office on Wednesday.
TIB Executive Director Dr Iftekharuzzaman said that corruption has been institutionalised in this sector, as done in other sectors.
As a result, Bangladesh government is being deprived of huge amount of revenue.
A large portion of those foreign nationals show lesser amount of money than the actual one as earnings to avoid paying the income tax, he added.
