Court Correspondent :
A Dhaka court yesterday placed three people including Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Pallabi Police Station Mahbubul Alam on a two-day remand each in a case filed about their alleged attempt to frame one innocent man in a drug case by putting Yaba tablets into his pocket.
Two others put on remand are- Md Rubel and Md Sohel Rana, informants of ASI Mahbubul Alam.
Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Sheikh Sadi of Dhaka CMM Court passed the order as police produced the trio in the court and pleaded to place them on a seven-day remand each. The defense however, argued for quashing the remand plea and setting the accused free on bail.
The three accused allegedly recently stopped
pedestrian Khalilur Rahman near Cantonment Railway Station. ASI Mahbub took the packet of Yaba tablets from one of his informants and put it into the pocket of Khalil. In spite of detaining him from Khilkhet area, Mahbub showed Khalil arrested in his police station.
The CCTV footage of the whole incident however, was broadcasted in TV news, making the police to file case against one of their own. Cantonment Police Station police filed the case under the Narcotics Control Act against Mahbub and two of his cohorts.
