Foolproof security during Durga Puja taken

Authorities have deployed Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in the city and district beside the police and RAB to ensure security for smooth celebration of the holy Durga Puja, the largest religious festival of the Hindu community to begin from today.
Official sources said three platoons of BGB started patrolling the city from 6 pm yesterday , while three other platoons of BGB were deployed in Sitakunda, Patiya and Hathajari upazilas of the district. They said three more platoons of BGB would be deployed in the city and one more would be stationed in the district from today. The measure was taken to ensure foolproof security during the Puja celebration, the sources said.
The BGB will remain vigilant to check any violence and untoward incident until the end of Durga Puja, they added.
Meanwhile, Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) have started taking preparations to make full security arrangement to ensure smooth holding of upcoming Durga Puja, the major religious festival of the Hindu community.
CMP Commissioner Abdul Jalil Mondol assured the leaders of Chittagong City Puja Udjapon Parisad (CCPUP) that full security at the places of Durga puja in the city would be ensured. He said this while exchanging views with the leaders of CCPUP at CMP conference room recently.
Meanwhile, necessary preparations for Durga Puja are at the final stage in the city and 14 upazilas of the district. This year all-time record number of idols of Goddess Durga will be erected, CCPUP leaders said.
The artisans are passing their busiest time at this peak hour to give finishing touches to the idols of Goddess Durga with their artistic creativity and colours, they added.
Tens of hundreds of Hindu community people of all ages are rushing to the markets and purchasing Puja clothes to celebrate their greatest religious festival with great enthusiasm, religious fervor and gaiety.
Besides, the intelligence agencies were asked to intensify their round- the- clock vigilance in and around the city. They were asked to collect information about the suspected trouble- makers or offenders so that police could take all sorts of preventive measures to avert any incident .
In this context, he said the CMP continued conducting anti-crime and narcotics control drives to keep the city free from illegal -drug trading, gambling, terrorism and anti-social activities.
Talking to Naimul Hasan, Additional SP said district police has also started taking preparations for full security arrangement to ensure smooth holding of Durga Puja in different parts of the district.
CMP sources said, they will engage 2500 police personnel at 121 points all over Chittagong and would set up 32 check posts in different places in the metropolis for the purpose.
Chittagong district police will also keep ready over 2400 police personal at important places including upazila headquarters under its jurisdictions on this occasion, district police officials said.
The four-day festival will begin from Oct 19 and end on October 22 when the Hindu communities jointly celebrate Nobomi and Bijoya Dashami on same day through the immersion of idols of Goddess Durga with festivity and religious fervor.
