The BNP on Thursday announced protest programme for two days over the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal Dhaka city leader Zakir Hossain Milon’s death in custody.
He was allegedly tortured to death during police remand.
The party will hold prayer session on Friday after Jumma prayer and demonstration on Sunday across the country protesting the incident.
BNP Senior Joint-Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi announced the programme in a press briefing at the party’s Naya Paltan central office in the capital.
The prayer session would be held in the mosques across the country, including Dhaka city, after Jumma prayer on Friday, praying for the salvation of the departed souls of all those who had been killed during the reign of this government.
The protest procession wearing black badges will march through all the thanas of Dhaka city, metropolitan cities and district headquarters across the country on Sunday.
Milon died on March 12 in police custody.
Earlier, the BNP demanded judicial investigation on the incident and justice.
Rizvi also accused the ruling Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader of provoking BNP to create anarchy.
“The AL General Secretary and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader is provoking the BNP to fall in the AL trap so that they could blame us. But he has become disappointed after failing to do that. He is now in fear of losing job,” Rizvi said.
The government has given the police and the RAB ‘license’ to suppress BNP.
BNP Chairperson’s advisor Abul Khayer Bhuiyan, Organizing Secretary Ruhul Quddus Talukder Dulu, Assistant Organizing Secretary Abdus Salam Azad, Assistant Office Secretary Taiful Islam Tipu, Md. Monir Hossain and Belal Ahmed, were also present.
